Introduction The word"Gong"
Trek around Minya Gongga Mountain You will have 21 days (4 days trekking) tour from Beijing Gansu to Sichuan, and 5 days trekking will lead you to appreciate the wonderful landscape of Sichuan.
Day1: Fly to Beijing Arrive in Beijing, our well-trained tour guide will pick you up at the airport and transfer to the hotel in the city. Visit the Tiananmen Square –the largest city square in the world and the Forbidden City, which used to be the living place of the emperors of the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties.
Day2: Visit the Temple of Heaven - Fly to Lanzhou In the morning visit the Temple of Heaven where the emperors worshipped for the harvest. Afternoon fly to Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu Province, in former time an important station on the Silk Road. Lanzhou was then a main junction of the trade routes to Tibet, Sibiria and the central parts of China located on the banks of the Yellow River. Nowadays Lanzhou is a modern industrial city. A bus will bring us from the airport to our hotel in the city (70km) where we will spend the night.
Day3: Visit Bingling Grotto Drive to Visit Binglingsi Grotto, “Bingling” means “thousand Buddhas” or “ten-thousand Buddhas” in the Tibetan language. The Grottoes carved into the cliffs of red sand-stones at both ends of Dasigou (valley) was first constructed in the Western Qin Dynasty. The Grottoes consist of three parts: Shangsi, Dongguo, and Xiasi. Shangsi were ruined by fire and what remained are only a few statues of Buddhas. In Xiasi, there are 34 caves and 14 niches still existing, 5 stone carvings and clay pagodas and 900 square meters of murals. Binglingsi is one of the ten largest Chinese grottoes. Overnight in Binlingsi, Then back to Lanzhou.
Day4: Drive to Labrang Drive 280km to Labrang, after arrival, visit the Gongtang Tower, built in 1805, a pagoda Buddhist. Then we can take a walk around the monastery. Overnight in Labrang.
Day5: Visit in Labrang Visit the famous Labrang Monastery in the Xiahe city in the morning. The Monastery is one of the six great monasteries of the Gelukpa (Yellow Hat) Sect. It was founded in 1709 by the monk E’Ang Zonghe, the first generation living Buddha, or Jiemuyang. Then drive 100km to Tongren County, sightseeing around and overnight in Tongren.
Day6: Drive to Zeku In the morning, visit monasteries around: Guomari, Nianduhu and Wutun Monastery. All the monasteries have a history of over 400 years. Among them, Wutun Monastery consists of two parts, and is famous for Regong Art School. Then drive to Zeku County, overnight in Zeku, guesthouse.
Day7: Drive to Maqin Drive 254km to Maqin, the capital of Guoluo Autonomous Prefecture of Tibetan Nationality, which is located in the middle of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Visit the Lajia Lamasery, it was built in the year of 34 in the Qianlong Period of the Qing Dynasty(1769), guided by Arougexi, a famous lama, under the order of the 7th incarnation of Dalai Lama. Overnight in Maqin, guesthouse.
Day8: Drive to Dari Drive 150km, crossing the grassland to Dari, a county of the Province of Qinghai, with countless black felt tents on the summer pasture on the way. Overnight in Dari.
Day9: Drive to Jiuzhi Drive 260km to Jiuzhi, Guoluo Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, a county of the Province of Qinghai. Overnight in Jiuzhi, guesthouse.
Day10: Drive to Aba Drive 73km to Aba, a Tibetan county. For being visited by a few tourists every year, Aba remains its primitive simplicity. Tibetan herdsmen ride on the street, and almost houses are painted with two white stripes – this might be the influence from Ben Sect. We will visit the Gerdeng Monastery, built in 1870, now has more than 800 lamas. Then have a visit to the Langyi Monastery of Ben Sect, with over 300 lamas residing in. From the 11th century, the Tibetan Buddhism had become popular and ever since then Ben Sect had nearly disappeared in Tibet area. Overnight in Aba, guesthouse.
Day11: Drive to Markang Drive 245km to Markang county. Markang is the Capital of Aba Autonomous Prefecture (Tibetan & Qiang Nations), on the 4200m Mountain Dream Pan. Overnight in Markang, guesthouse.
Day12: Drive to Danba Drive 210km to Danba, Danba County in the Garze Tibet Autonomous Prefecture in Sichuan Province is famous for its watchtowers. All of the watchtowers in Danba have a door fitted about five meters above their foundation; and people must climb a wooden ladder to get into them. When the villages were invaded, people hid in the watchtowers. Visit around in Danba, and overniht in Danba, guesthouse.
Day13: Drive to Suopu Drive 160km to Xinduqiao, Xinduqiao posesses an attactive nick - The Paradise of Photographers. then to Suopu via Liuba. Overnight in tents or lacal people’s houses.
Day14: Trek Trek 4.5 hours to Cimi Pass (4600m),whit horses carrying our luggage. If the weather is fine, we will have a chance to see the beautiful landscape of Gongga Mountain (7556m). Downward 2 hours along the zigzag path to Cimi (3550m), overnight in tents or lacal people’s houses.
Day15: Trek Start to trek from Cimi, passing by Mani stone piles and prayer flags, crossing a bridge over the Buershu River, climb from the valley and reach Gongga Monastery 2 hours later. The monastery is located on a narrow platform in the valley of the Gongga Glacier, just opposite to Gongga Mountain. Overnight in tents in the monastery.
Day16: Trek Explore around the monastery. After visiting the monastery, climb up to a 5000m high mountain, which has a attractive scenery around. Afternoon return to Cimi. Overnight in tents or local people’s houses.
Day17: Have one day off in terms of the weather
Day18: Trek Trek through Cimi Pass to Suopu, overnight in tents ot by local families.
Day19: Drive to Kangding Drive some hours to Kangding, the county seat has a largest a large Chinese population, the countryside is very traditional and very Tibetan. The county has high mountains, grasslands inhabited by nomads, fanciful castle-like houses, and rich farms. There are plenty of monasteries in Kanding, too, and colorful festivals. Overnight in Kangding.
Day20: Drive to Chengdu Drive 350km to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province, is China’s important industrial base, covering an area of 12,390 square kilometers and with a population of 9,4 million. Chengdu is mountainous in the north-west area, with plains in the south-east area, and low hills in-between. It has a sub-tropical climate with an annual average temperature of 16 degree Celsius. Overnight in Chengdu.
Day21: Fly to Beijing Check out of the hotel and transfer to the airport station to catch the flight to Beijing.
