SHR008-2: 4-Day Mysterious Lhasa
Introduction Tibet has various complex landforms such as high and steep mountains, deep valleys, glaciers, bare rocks and gobi deserts. All places in the region lie at an average altitude of more than 4,000 meters.It is bitterly cold in winter, with a marked difference in temperature between daytime and night. It features scarce precipitation and a sharp contrast between the dry and wet seasons. It is dry in winter and spring, with frequent occurrence of strong winds, as well as low oxygen content.Tibet is so sunny as to have an annual sunshine of between 1,500 and 3,400 hours. It has a short frost-free period, usually ranging from 120 to 140 days a year.
4-Day Mysterious Lhasa In the vast land of Tibet, which is regarded as “the Roof of the World”, the diligent and smart Tibetan people have made numerous cultural miracles. The Tibetan architecture, costumes, cuisine, folklore, epic tales, dances and festivals appeal deeply to the outsiders. This program probes into the mystery of Tibet’s colorful and ancient culture.
Day1: Arrival in Lhasa Drive to downtown Lhasa, which is the highest located city in the world with the altitude of 3,650 meters above the sea level. Dinner is served at your hotel so that the extra drive and energy will be saved for tomorrow.
Day2: Lhasa Tour starts from the religious Potala Palace (3700 m )built in the 7th century by the famous Tibetan king-Songtzen Gampo. The present one was built by the 5th Dalai Lama in the 17th century. It became known as the "Winter Palace" by the 1750, when the 7th Dalai Lama built the Norbulingka Park as his summer residence. After lunch, you will visit Jokhang Temple, situated in the old section of Lhasa. King Songtzen Gampo built this temple in the mid-7th century A.D. Now it is the most sacred place in Tibet. Pilgrims come here to pay homage from all over Tibet. Visit Barkhore Street in the evening.
Day3: Lhasa Full day sightseeing takes you to Drepung Monastery which is the largest of the monastery of the Gelug Sect in Tibet. After that, you will visit Norbulingka Park. In 1752, the 7th Dalai Lama built the first palace here for successive Dalai Lamas to carry out their political and religious activities during the summer season. Then, our guide will take you to visit a local Tibetan family and Tibetan carpet workshop for free.
Day4: Departure from Lhasa The last visit is to see the Tibet Museum if time permits. The guide will see you off at the airport with comfortable private transfer.
