A long History and Diversified Cultures The excavation of a Neolithic age site in Haneyi Village, Zhnglu Town, Danba County, proves thant Danba was one of the important areas for human ancestors who lived on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Covering an area of more than 20,000 square meters, it is a site with approximately eight-meter deep cultural depositing tiers. From a wealth of pottery, stoneware, bone ware, buildings and ash pits unearthed, experts determined that the site existed sometime between 2,000 to 5,000 years ago.
Poetic Dwellings in Kingdom of Towers Danba has been known as “a place with a thousand towers” since ancient times. According to historical records, the building of the towers can be dated back to more than 2,000 years ago in the Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD). There had been already more than 3,000 towers by the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) and the middle period of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). According to the statistics, there still reserve 562 such ancient towers. Jiarong preserves the most ancient towers in China, and Danba has the most of the towers in Jiarong. Ancient Land and Descendents of Ancient Kingdom Danba ladies are endowed with talents and elegance. They are wellversed in singing and dancing. They don’t apply many cosmetics as those city ladies do, but they are born clever and pure. It seems that they don’t have a strong build and pretty appearance as other branches of Tibetan women do, but they appear to be slender and charming. According to historical records, there had many tribes and ethnic groups living in compact communities in Danba, one of the major spots from where the Jiarong culture originated. Today, there still live a dozen of ethnic groups with different cultural backgrounds, such as the Tibetan, Han, Qiang, Hui and others. The beautiful Danba ladies bear the characteristics of multi-cultural exchanges. Dajin River Qiongshan Offecial Residences and Jiaju Tibetan Villages The Dajin River, one of the trunk streams in the upper reaches of the Dadu River, stretches some 42.8 kilometers from Maerbang Town, Jinchuan County, through Badi, Bawang and Niexia villages of the same township, and finally merges into the Dadu River at Zhanggu Town. Scenery along the riverbanks is beautiful with adjoining Tibetan villages known as “beauty valleys,” sites of residences of former Badi and Bawang rulers, Songan Monastry, Pengcuo Range Monastery, Yongzhongdaji Range Monastery, and monasteries of Tibetan Buddhism and other religious beliefs. The Qiongshan Official Residence, the well-know site of the former Badi ruler’s summer palace, situated on a 36-kilometer-long road stretching from the county seat to Qiongshan Village. Sacred Moerduo Mountain Towering 4820 meters above sea level between the Dajin and Xiaojin rivers, extending several hundred square kilometers into Maerkang, Jinchuan and Xiaojin counties, Mountain Mooerduo is one of the four sacred mountains in the Tibetan area and the most famous sacred mountain in Jiarong area. Located nine kilometers from the county seat, the Moerduo Monastery holds a grand fair each year during the 10th day and 15th day of the seventh lunar month. Believers come to worship the sacred mountain and celebrate the birthday of the God of Moerduo. Donggu River Natural Bonsai The torrential water flows by dangerous shoals and through steep gorges. Heaps of pebbles which look as red as blood can be seen along the river-side. The miracle caused by a kind of low-class life form clinging to the surface of pebbles and stones, is known as “Dragon Slaughtering Shoal” or “Red Stone Shoal.” Along the river banks, there are snow mountains, lakes, hot springs, waterfalls, rare and sharp peaks, green woods and many more. In the later years of the 1980s, when late Hu Yaoban, then CPC general sectary, passed by the place, he couldn’t help praising the scenery and called it a “natural bonsai.” |
